This is a pair of hand-cast brass deer — one standing, one at rest — made entirely by hand by our master tribal artisan in India, using a technique that is over 4,000 years old called Dhokra. Together they weigh 710g. Sold as a pair.
Dhokra is a lost-wax casting method. Each figure is built first in wax, wrapped in clay, fired, and filled with molten brass. The mould is broken to release the sculpture — meaning it can never be used again. Every piece is one of a kind.
Look closely at the body: fine linear engraving runs the full length, and an open diamond lattice band cuts through the middle — each aperture cast by hand, not pierced afterwards. The antlers branch with a lightness that belies the weight of the metal. One deer stands alert. The other rests, legs folded beneath it. Together they tell a complete moment.
