This is an 11-inch, 3.5kg hand-cast brass sculpture of Nandi — the sacred bull of Shiva — made entirely by hand by our master tribal artisan in India, using a technique that is over 4,000 years old called Dhokra.
Dhokra is a lost-wax casting method. The form is built first in wax, wrapped in clay, fired, and filled with molten brass. The mould is broken to release the sculpture — meaning it can never be used again. Every piece is one of a kind.
At 3.5kg, this is not a decorative object. It is a presence. Nandi stands fully adorned — layered bead necklaces, a ceremonial bell at the chest, an intricately worked crown, wide curved horns, and a saddle-cloth rendered in fine cross-hatch and dot-work that takes days to complete by hand. The antique brass deepens with age. The oxidation in the recessed areas is not wear — it is time, made visible.
One piece available. When it is gone, the next will be made to order with a 10–12 week lead time.
