Dimension

This is a pair of 7-inch, hand-cast brass standing deer — both upright, heads tilted slightly skyward — made entirely by hand by our master tribal artisan in India, using a technique that is over 4,000 years old called Dhokra. Each figure weighs 249g. Sold as a pair.

Dhokra is a lost-wax casting method. Each figure is built first in wax, wrapped in clay, fired, and filled with molten brass. The mould is broken to release the sculpture — meaning it can never be used again. Every piece is one of a kind.

These two stand together but face slightly different directions — one watchful, one listening. Fine linear engraving covers the full body, and an open diamond lattice band cuts through the mid-section, each aperture cast entirely by hand. The antlers branch with a lightness that belies the weight of the metal beneath.
